I think routine is good but I find it difficult to keep one. I write more in spurts throughout the day or according to my goal. So it might be one hour or five hours, or in the morning or at night. It just depends on a lot of different things, like if I need to go shopping with my daughter.
But when I do get down to it, writing with passion is key. And that can look like a lot of different things, like going over and over something until it’s perfect. If there’s even a tiny question in my mind over what I’ve written, that means going back to it again and again until it’s exactly what I want. I finally know if it’s right when it feels right.
I become the characters I am writing about. I feel their emotions, know their thoughts, and live their actions. When I am writing my story I live in my character’s world. That takes a lot of energy and concentration. That’s passion.
When I’m stuck and can’t generate that idea, I get up and do something else and find those ideas popping into my mind on account of it. I find that as I relax and lower my stress level, my mind is freer to connect with ideas. Then I keep going and write like there’s no tomorrow. I’m getting to where I want to be.
I love what I’m writing about and so I know others will too. But when it’s all said and done, I love that as well. I’ve just created a unique gift to pass on to others and feel excited and proud of it. When others feel that positive energy and passion, I believe things will just keep on getting better.
