Loving someone who has treated you unjustly can be a difficult thing to do. And sometimes people will repay unkind behavior with more unkind behavior. And there are probably all sorts of reasons for that such as hurt feelings or defensiveness. But this is not the case with young Sophia in the story, Sophia’s Yellow Scarf. In fact she does the opposite and is kind and thoughtful to someone who didn’t deserve it.
Most people have probably been in a situation where they doubted whether they could achieve something they wanted to do. But we all know one is only going to know if that is true or not by trying. This is the message that I wanted Cleo and Pogo to convey in my story. Pogo doubted himself inside the castle but when Cleo encouraged Pogo to only try, the curly haired dog found out that he was capable after all.
Believe it or not, the reason why I wrote Sophia’s Red Hat was to create a story that taught a mathematical concept. Being a teacher, I am very interested in teaching math in creative and fun ways. But of course if an idea comes to me, that’s it, I have to get up and write it…..
There are so many benefits to reading of children I’m not sure where to start. I think the first thing I would say, as a parent, that reading a book to your child creates a bond between the parent and the child. It is quality time spent that will last a lifetime, an investment that will always be remembered. With my own children I spent a lot of time on a daily basis reading to them and to this day…..
Everyone knows that laughter is good medicine. Research says that laughter keeps us healthier and in better spirits. So humor was one thing that I wanted to incorporate in my story. And children love to laugh and are good at it. The humorous aspect of the story is funny because the idea of what is happening in the story comes from everyday situations that have been exaggerated to make it funny. I test my stories out on my husband and…..
